OUR WORK

Workplace Gender Equality

IW co-founded and supports Business Coalitions that help employers create a fairer workplace, attract and retain diverse teams and deliver on their ESG strategies. Business Coalitions use WGE tools and market knowledge to help business leaders benchmark their business, make more informed decisions and connect with clients and consumers. Together, Businesses Coalition members employ more than one million employees.

Challenges and Approach

In Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam, Investing in Women supports Business Coalitions that work with influential businesses on shifting workplace cultures, practices and policy barriers to achieve workplace gender equality. Over 100 member companies โ€“ many of whom are the regionโ€™s private sector leaders and biggest employers โ€“ have made a commitment to positive change.

These businesses benefit through increased staff motivation; better talent management; higher productivity and performance; and improved reputation. They also act as catalysts, influencing sector-wide practices to effect change and encouraging others to embrace gender equality in the workplace.

The Business Coalitions are driving change from the top, with CEOs making concrete commitments to gender equality, such as working towards equal pay, and ensuring women have the same access to opportunity as their male counterparts. They hold themselves accountable by measuring progress against their commitments, including through customised diagnostic assessments, training, policy advisory services and employee surveys.

The Business Coalitions also work in partnership with stock exchanges and regulators to support the integration of gender equality measures into corporate reporting, as well as with a range of partners to advance public policy reforms that promote womenโ€™s workforce participation, such as access to quality childcare and quality jobs for women.
