Yaring Pinay Gender Communication Toolkit for TVET Students

This toolkit was created with the goal of empowering individuals to create a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment by helping them understand the importance of gender communication. It includes background information on topics such as occupational segregation, guidelines for gender-responsive communication in different contexts and channels, examples of gender-responsive communication in different contexts and media, and a personal action plan for making changes.

The toolkit is an invaluable resource that offers insights into the nuances of gender discussions—from understanding cultural stereotypes to recognizing implicit biases in conversations. The checklists, self-assessment questions, exercises, and related resources allow users to take a deeper dive into their beliefs regarding gender roles and how they might be perpetuating them via language or actions. It also provides useful tips on how to create a more socially aware classroom environment that respects everyone’s differences regardless of one’s sex or sexual orientation.

In addition to its educational aspects, this toolkit also offers practical advice on developing skills essential for success. These include combating common forms of discrimination through effective communication—how to recognize language which could be interpreted as offensive; how to avoid using harmful labels; how to use nonverbal cues effectively; and other strategies which can help people address potential issues related to unconscious bias.
