Investing in Women and Oxfam Pilipinas renew partnership for advancing gender equality

Investing in Women (IW) is pleased to renew its partnership with Oxfam Pilipinas to promote positive examples of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment among young Filipino women and men.

Oxfam Pilipinas is a rights-based, feminist organisation with a focus on eradicating poverty and inequality. They work with partners to transform the unequal power structures and social norms to create a movement of economically and politically empowered women and communities.

From 2020 to 2023, IW supported an award-winning Oxfam campaign which sought to reframe the conversation on the gendered sharing of unpaid care work. As part of the campaign, Oxfam established the HomeSquadPH online community, which encouraged members to share their experiences of negotiating and redistributing care responsibilities within their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building on the previous partnership with IW, Oxfam aims to support and showcase gender-equal business practices among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). To do this, the EmpowerHer Project: Embedding Gender Equality in MSME Business Praxis in the Philippines, will leverage a network of social entrepreneurs, who tend to be early adopters of more sustainable and inclusive business policies.

Working in partnership with the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship Asia (ISEA), Oxfam will engage members of the Poverty Reduction through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Coalition through awareness raising campaigns and modules on key themes such as redistributing care work and equal work for equal pay. Oxfam and ISEA will also identify key opinion leaders within these organisations who can highlight the positive change that is already happening in the Philippines towards gender equality.

The accompanying community of practice (CoP) will enable members to share learnings and pilot their own gender equality modules within their respective organisations. These activities will be implemented with the support of communications firm , who was also involved with Oxfam’s previous campaigns.

Investing in Women supports locally driven campaigns in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam that highlight positive examples of gender equality to strengthen public support for women’s economic participation. Through fostering a community of gender equality advocates, IW will continuously build evidence that supports the broader adoption of progressive attitudes and behaviours.
