In Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Vietnam, we support Business Coalitions who work with influential businesses on shifting workplace cultures, practices and policy barriers to achieve workplace gender equality (WGE).
Leading businesses have significant power to effect change and influence society towards gender equality. There are significant benefits including: increased staff motivation; better talent management; higher productivity and performance; and improved reputation.
Studies show that companies with more equal representation of female and male board members outperform those with fewer women board members on return on invested capital by 26%. Yet, only 9% of directors on global corporate boards are women, and only 4% of Fortune 500 companies have a female CEO.
The Business Coalitions are driving change from the top, with CEOs making concrete commitments to gender equality, such as working towards equal pay, and creating an environment where women have as much opportunity as their male counterparts. They hold themselves accountable by measuring their progress against their commitments.
The Business Coalitions (BCs) provide customised advice and support to companies seeking to improve WGE and benefit from the positive impacts to their businesses. The BCs support companies seeking recognition of their commitment to gender equality by preparing them for certification under Economic Dividends for Gender Equality (EDGE), the global business certification standard for gender equality.
The Business Coalitions also work in partnership with the private sector and other stakeholders to advance public policy reforms that remove barriers to workplace gender equality.
The Business Coalitions are a voice for gender equality in the workplace, leading the way in their own businesses and acting as important advocates for women’s economic empowerment.
