Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are key drivers of economic growth in most parts of the world, especially in the economies of East Asia and the Pacific. However, the SME sector around the world remains largely unbanked and undercapitalised. An estimated 70.7% of women-owned enterprises remain unserved or underserved by formal financial institutions. This creates a financing gap of at least USD 287 Billion. In East Asia and the Pacific, this gender finance gap is estimated to be USD 68 Billion.
